An exhibition of Scottish Glass Society members work inspired by the Commonwealth.
On tour – The Briggait, 114 Bridgegate, Glasgow, G1 5HZ
Monday 10 to Monday 17 August 2026 from 11 am – 4 pm daily
Inspired by Glasgow hosting the Commonwealth Games again, Scottish Glass Society members have created stained, copper foiled, mosaic and fused glass panels depicting what it means to them. Many have been inspired by the city of Glasgow itself and its iconic architectural and cultural history. Others have been inspired by what the Commonwealth offers in term of flora, natural beauty, iconic emblems and sport.
Glass art, and in particular stained glass is now a heritage craft at risk. To accompany this exhibition a number of demonstrations will be held showing the craft of stained glass and how it is still very relevant today – both in terms of the maintenance and restoration of existing stained glass and how it can be incorporated into modern life as a legacy for the future.
Staind glass demonstrations will take place on Saturday 15 August and Sunday 16 August from 12 noon till 4 pm within the Briggait exhibition space.
The Scottish Glass Society is grateful to WASPS for hosting the exhibition and to Creative Glasgow who are helping support artists to demonstrate and promote this at-risk heritage craft.
