🎨 Purpose of the Awards
The Scottish Glass Society (SGS) offers two annual awards supporting emerging glass artists with under 10 years’ experience. These awards help artists access travel, training, and professional development opportunities that can significantly shape their creative growth.
🌍 1. SGS Travel Award – £400
Supports travel for artistic or educational purposes, such as:
- Visiting studios, schools, or artists abroad
- Attending workshops or residencies
- Research trips to explore techniques, materials, or traditions
Your application must include:
- What work you propose
- Where you want to go
- How the travel will benefit your artistic career
- Estimated costs
- Any other funding you’ve applied for
🔧 2. Hamilton Taylor Award – £250
Supports attendance at a UK-based masterclass or short course, including:
- Kilnforming
- Flameworking
- Specialist technique intensives
Your application must include:
- The course or masterclass you want to attend
- When and where it takes place
- How it will benefit your artistic career
- Estimated costs
- Any other funding you’ve applied for
📄 General Application Requirements
Applicants must submit:
- A 500‑word statement (maximum)
- Up to 4 images of recent work (JPEGs)
- A current CV
You do not need to be an SGS member to apply, but you must join if awarded funding.
📌 Award Conditions
Recipients agree to:
- Write a report or article for the SGS website and/or Journal
- Acknowledge SGS and Hamilton Taylor Studio in all related work, talks, and correspondence
🗓️ Deadline & Assessment
- Deadline: 5pm, Sunday 31 May 2026
- Applications are assessed by the SGS Board
- Additional information may be requested
- Projects already underway by the deadline are not eligible
- SGS may choose not to award either prize in a given year

🏭 About Hamilton Taylor Studio
Located in Glasgow’s Southside, Hamilton Taylor Studio is run by Gillian Hamilton and Sean Taylor, specialising in kilnforming and flameworking. They produce commissioned decorative and functional glassware, run beginner classes, and operate an online shop supplying flameworking tools and glass.
