STRENGTH IN FRAGILITY Inspired by the stunning beauty of the Solway Coast and influenced by the planet’s resources being stretched to the limit; I see

Profile

During my decades of working as a graphic designer I had the opportunity to produce a number images for the covers of classical CDs. Many of these works were inspired by artists such as Gaudi, Miro, Matisse, Klimt & glass artists such as Lipofsky, Roubicek & Libensky who were contemporaries of the composers on the discs. Studying these works sparked my initial desire to work with glass.

In more recent years I have worked as a Shiatsu practitioner (Human & Equine) and an equestrian coach, whilst  “painting pictures with plants”. Alongside my husband Mark, I have developed 2 acres of gardens in land surrounding our 200 year old farmhouse on the Solway Coast. These gardens are totally organic & our aim is to produce a year round kaleidoscope of colour that is not only beautiful to look at but also encourages a wide diversity of wildlife.

Inspired by the wildlife and amazing scenery that surrounds me, my journey into Glass work began in 2023 and I have worked with Copper foil and am now concentrating on kiln formed work that explores the elasticity & reaction of glass when stretched to a fragile state.

The beauty of our planet is constantly threatened & subsequently very fragile. I am currently working on a series of vessels “This Fragile World” which I hope are  aesthetically beautiful whilst indicative of how precarious is the balance of nature.

I use combinations of frit without base glass to stretch the glass to the maximum allowing holes to form, these holes can look beautiful but they illustrate that when we overuse the world’s resources things can just get stretched too thin.
