Our joint exhibition with the Contemporary Glass Society , ‘Stories – Whispers from the Past and the Present’, opens to the public in Glasgow on Thursday 14 September 2022. A private viewing will be held on the 13th of September at 6 pm. Member will shortly receive their invite to this event.
In addition, we are delighted to host the Glass Society of Ireland’s collaborative artwork ‘A Breath of Fresh Air – The Keep Well Glass Quilt Project’.
It feels like it has been a long time coming, but it is such a delight to be able to return to real exhibition spaces with opportunities to see live work and meet people once again!
Both Scottish Glass Society (SGS) and Contemporary Glass Society (CGS) are grateful to the enthusiastic response to this theme by artists. Fifty artists have submitted seventy pieces of work. The range of exhibits on display reflects the diversity and range of glass practice in the UK, in both contemporary and traditional techniques and processes. What you see in the exhibition is a vibrant and diverse display of highly visual work all using glass as the primary artistic material. All SGS members will receive a copy of the publication produced for this exhibition.
As 2022 is the United Nations designated International Year of Glass, we have added an international dimension to this exhibition by hosting the Glass Society of Ireland’s Glass Quilt. The Irish Quilt is one collaborative artwork incorporating 50 different artist’s work.
A Breath of Fresh Air – The Keep Well Glass Quilt Project – is a unique collaborative project which was undertaken by members of the Glass Society of Ireland during the third wave of Covid 19 and subsequent lockdown.
Fifty glassmakers came together virtually to collaborate on this large glass quilt. This glass quilt has been exhibited at the Venice 2021 Biennale and is coming to Scotland thanks to Healy Arts.
