Profile

Tim Carter graduated from Chelsea School of Art and Design in 1992, where he gained a BA (Hons) in Public Art. He worked in a variety of media such as mosaic, ceramics and textiles before selecting Architectural and Stained Glass as his specialism.

Whilst studying at Chelsea, Tim worked at the studio of glass and steel sculptor Danny Lane. This continued after his graduation and he was part of the team who made and installed the glass balustrade on the staircase and mezzanine of the main glass gallery at the Victoria and Albert Museum, London.

After graduating Tim travelled widely, furthering his skills and experience by working in wood, steel fabrication and engineering workshops. He gained his PGCE in Art & Design Education at De Montfort University in 1997 and has run evening & weekend courses in stained & decorative glass.

Tim established Tim Carter – Glass & Sculpture in 1999. From his studio in Rutland he designs manufactures, restores, and installs traditional and contemporary stained glass and leaded-light windows as well as designing and producing a range of decorative and functional glass wall-pieces, mirrors, lighting and sculptures.

Tim’s interest lies in the refractive, reflective and structural properties of glass; how it can be manipulated and decorated to affect the passage of light and colour through it.
The work is formed using a wide variety of materials, techniques and processes, to produce a range of work, which is both sculptural and functional, with an emphasis on design, geometry and construction.
