Liz French
Profile
My work explores light, colour and form through fused glass panels and sculptural works. Upon firing I allow a certain amount of chance to create fluid and organic lines. The fluidity of the glass becoming almost painterly. Through precise cutting and experimental kiln firing, I aim to achieve a balance between structure and spontaneity, akin to forms found in nature.
I am based in the North West Highlands on the edges of a sea loch, which offers a rich diversity of natural forms and atmospheres to work with. I observe my environment carefully and translate the colours and forms from the land and seascapes into glass
Layering a number of glass panels or elements is an essential feature of my work and allows me to explore sculptural forms. I create spaces in amongst the coloured layers to allow for the light to move around and catch the reflective surfaces.
